Bible Reading: ISAIAH 7:1-end
“And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe, surely ye shall not be established” – Isaiah 7:9 (KJV).
The word of God is the solid foundation for life. Anything or any life built on human philosophy cannot stand. Only the truth can establish a person and the word of God is truth. Any man that hears the word of God and believes it is established on firm foundation but anyone that does otherwise deceives himself. “And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper” – 2 Chronicles 20:20 (KJV).
One’s going is only established as one believes the Lord and his word. If one hears the word but fails to believe it, such one cannot be blessed or be established. Jesus drew the disciples’ attention to this fact when he shared the principle of establishment. He taught that anyone that hears the word but fails to do it is like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand but that any one that hears his word and does it is likened to a man that built upon the rock. In the two cases, rain and storm threatened the houses. While the house built on the sand fell flat, the house built on the rock stood. The implication is that only things built on the word can be established (Matthew 7:25-27). The word of God is likened to rock while human philosophy is likened to sand. When one believes in the word of God, faith is put to work and the result is stability. Without faith, nothing stands. Faith in God is a solid ground for anything that hopes to survive in this world and the world to come. If one’s life is not built on faith in the word of God, such a person has no stand with God and no place in eternity. Christ is the solid rock on which people and things stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
Apostle James describes a man that has no faith as a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. He warned that such a person should not expect to receive anything from God. A double minded man, he said, is unstable in all his ways (James 1:6-8).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me strong faith for stability.
