Topic: Intercession
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:105-176; 1 Corinthians 5.
Memory Verse: “For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?” 1 Corinthians 5:12 (KJV).
There are so many challenges that everyone has to face at one time or the other whether you are a believer or not. The main difference is that we believers have the backing of the Almighty God in everything that we go through. His promise in Isaiah 43:2 (KJV) is, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” This is why we are more than conquerors. The Bible says that we are saved to the uttermost because the Lord prays for us continually as stated in Hebrews 7:25 (KJV), “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
If the Lord Jesus Christ is praying for us, how often do you intercede for people, family, church, nations and others? The Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:1 (KJV), “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;” Most prayer sessions are focused on self needs and less on others and we know that one of the conditions for the second coming of Christ is stated in Matthew 24:14 (KJV), “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”
So one of the ways to show you are expecting the Lord Jesus is to preach the gospel to the unreached people of the world and/or pray for missionaries to reach them so as to ensure the whole world has heard about Christ! How often do you intercede for the missionaries and the unreached people of the world? When you pray for your needs and those of your families, do you remember the poor, the needy? Knowing that the world is coming to an end soon, we should be concerned about the level of apostacy in the world and pray often for the mercy and intervention of God in the world generally. In our various churches, there may be things that are being done contrary to the will of God, how often do we call on God for intervention in the church? God has said we should judge ourselves in the church instead of judging those outside. By this we will be purifying the church and thus make it more attractive to unbelievers. 1 Corinthians 5:12 (KJV), “For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?”
Prayer point: Father, please give me the grace to intercede consistently for your church in Jesus name.
