…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 23/11/2016

“But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God” – Hebrews 10:12 (KJV).

The priests under the old covenant stood daily ministering and offering, often times the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. They stood daily because their work was never finished, neither was it perfect. The blood of bulls and goats could never take away man’s sins. They were offered to cover man’s sins on temporal basis to avert the wrath or judgment of God.

Jesus didn’t have to repeat the sacrifice. He never had any need to minster often times the same sacrifice. By one sacrifice, he met the demands of divine justice. By one sacrifice, he perfected forever them that are sanctified. This sacrifice atoned for man’s sins; purged and cleansed man, purged man’s conscience of guilt and condemnation and paid for all the penalty of sin. By one sacrifice, he purchased man and delivered him from bondage. By one sacrifice, he created for man, a new and living way, granting him access to God. That sacrifice purchased our righteousness, having freed us from sin. That single sacrifice freed us from bondage and captivity. That one sacrifice purchased our prosperity and freed us from poverty. That one sacrifice liberated us from curse and qualified us to partake of the blessings of Abraham. (Galatians 3:13-14). That one sacrifice provided healing and divine health for us, he himself bearing our sickness on his body and healing us by his stripes. That one sacrifice qualified us for sonship and gave us the privilege of father-son relationship. Jesus paid it all on the cross to purchase our eternal redemption. When he said it is finished, he meant the completion of the transaction that guaranteed our translation from the kingdom of Satan to the kingdom of God, from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light.

We do not have to do any work to earn salvation, he did it all. We do not have to pay for our sins he paid it all. The father was satisfied with his sacrifice. The debt that man could not pay was fully paid for by Christ. He now freely offers us salvation as a gift. He offers us healing, deliverance and blessings as a gift. We do not have to work for any of these, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yours: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” – Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV).

We are now called to enter into his rest, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” – Matthew 11:28 (KJV). We are called to operate from the place of rest.

PRAYER: Thank you Jesus for the finished work of redemption.
