Topic: House of Prayer
Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 10-12; Luke 19:29-48.
Memory Verse: “Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.” Luke 19:46 (KJV) .
Generally speaking a Prayer could be explained as a request to another, usually a superior, asking for assistance. However spiritually, it is a request to the Supreme being asking for spiritual help. And a house is also defined as a building for human habitation or a place in which people meet for a particular activity. A house of prayer therefore is a place where prayers are expected to be made continually. However what do we have in some of our churches today? All forms of comics, jests, and trading in different forms as senior pastors and their wives in some of the churches now compete to take on various contracts of supplies in the church! Meanwhile the Bible tells us the disciples of Christ appointed men of honest report to handle such ( Acts 6:2-4) and they concentrated on their main focus which is stated in Acts 6:4 (KJV), “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”
But beyond this, every Christian is a house wherein the Spirit dwells. 1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV) says, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” And so every Christian should be a house of prayer! And as a house of prayer, you are expected to pray continuously to the Supreme being, God Almighty to avoid working against the Spirit that dwells in you. 1 Thessalonians 5:15-19 (KJV) tells you to “See that none render evil for evil unto any man ; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. [16] Rejoice evermore. [17] Pray without ceasing. [18] In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. [19] Quench not the Spirit.”
These are the principles that the Bible expects to guide each of God’s children. How well have you fared? So while paying attention to the congregation of Christians, it is important that each Christian should examine himself that he fits into the description of our lord Jesus Christ and then it becomes easy for the congregation to fulfill the purpose and ensure it is not a den of thieves as Jesus stated in Luke 19:46 (KJV), “Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.”
Prayer point:
Father, help me and every member of my household to preserve our bodies to be house of prayer truly dedicated to you in Jesus Christ’s name.
