Topic: Are you covering your sin?
Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 10-12; Luke 19:29-48.
Memory Verse: “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Proverbs 28:13 (KJV) .
In the process of covering your sin, you often commit more sins. This was the case with David who committed adultery with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah. Upon conception of the woman, David thought of ways of covering his sin and decided that if he could recall the husband from war and made him sleep with the wife, nobody would know that the baby being carried by Bathsheba belonged to him! When this failed, he sent a message to the army commander to place the man in the hottest war zone so that he may die! And truly the man died. David must have felt victorious and that nobody would know he committed adultery with the woman.
However, in his calculation, he did not consider the God-factor! God saw everything and sent a prophet, Nathan to tell him about the sin and the punishment. Are you engaged in any unknown sin and you have tried to cover it or you are planning to cover it? Please note that God says everyone who covers his sin shall not prosper! And the word of God is forever settled. He says unrepentant sinners will end up in hell! Revelation 21:8 (KJV) says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Death can come anytime and so one should be prepared at every time to face judgment by living a life of accountability, a life of surrender and complete obedience to God’s word. As you read the word of God, it will bring out your area of sin within your conscience and nudge you to repent and make amends. Where you refuse to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit over time, your conscience will be dulled! The Bible says of such people in Romans 1:28 (KJV), “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;”
On the other hand, there is a promise to everyone who is not only willing to confess his sins but also repent of them and ask God to forgive him with a decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour. The Lord Jesus says in Matthew 11:28 (KJV), “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He is ready to forgive your sins no matter how grievious they may be. God says in Isaiah 1:18 (KJV), “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Action point: Confess your sins and repent of them and you shall have mercy of God.
