Bible Reading: Psalm 120-123; 1 Corinthians 6.
Memory Verse: “My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2 (KJV).
Everyone needs help at one time or the other. God created us for relationships so no one is expected to live in isolation. In fact, that is the basis for creating Eve. “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Genesis 2:18 (KJV). It is, however, important to note that a helper is not a maker and you should not treat your helper like your maker! We are in the church age particularly in Nigeria where worshippers are beginning to turn their helpers into their maker and worshipping them. This has become so common particularly among men of God that their congregation worship them! Have you watched some preachers that when they preach and move to a stand of their congregations, those members stand up immediately to honour them. When they move to another side, those ones also stand in honour. Then you begin to wander what is the original meaning of a minister. Is it not a servant? Jesus Christ said in Mark 10:43-45 (KJV), “But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: [44] And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. [45] For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” So if you are in a position of authority and therefore able to help others, remember you are to serve them and not Lord it over them.
In addition, don’t let the people turn you to a god. Our people have the tendency to do that particularly, if you are quite helpful, it is important for you to note that you should correct them and not accept such glory as that may be the beginning of your fall. Similarly, if you are seeking help, remember that the person you are approaching is able to help you because God has made it so. Don’t worship your helper, but respect him and show gratitude to him.
Remember that God, your maker is your ultimate help. Psalm 121:2 (KJV) puts it succinctly, “My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” He is the one who can send help to you in any situation you may be.
Prayer Point: Almighty God, please send help to me in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
