Bible Reading: Jeremiah 3, 4 & 5; 1 Timothy 4.
“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this you shall both save yourself, and them that hear thee – 1 Tim 4:16 (KJV).
Although God is the one who graciously saves people through the work of His Son, Jesus Christ, He uses Jesus’ followers as instruments to lead them into personal relationship with Him.
Salvation is both an event and a process. From the moment we accept Christ and entrust our lives to Him, we enter a personal relationship with Him. Yet, we are still being saved in the sense that we are being continually conformed to Christ’s image and character (1 Cor. 1:18). This means living lives devoted to God and separated from evil, remaining sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s work and gift (v. 14), and teaching the truth.
These things were not only important for Timothy personally, but also for all those to whom he ministered.
