Bible Reading: Exodus 12,13; Matthew 16
“Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the sadduces” Matthew 16:6 (KJV).
There are so many false teachers with false teachings going around today. False teaching is a teaching that lead others into error and ruin. They may appear to be be from the bible but have been mixed with corrupt ideas from the devil.
Jesus warned the disciples to be on the alert, “… beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep’s clothing , but inwardly they are ravening wolves” Matthew 7:15 (KJV). He went on to point out how they can be recognised, “Ye shall know them by their fruits. … A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit, wherefore, by their fruits you shall know them” Matthew 7:16,18,20 (KJV).
Jesus used the word “leaven.” Leaven is yeast, and mostly symbolises evil or corruption. A small amount of leaven will ferment and affect the whole. So the leaven of the Pharisees refers to their traditions which they placed above God’s commands. Nothing good can come out where God’s command is relegated or set aside for man’s.
A large number of people are being influenced and affected by wrong teachings today in the body of Christ. Wrong doctrines has led many astray. We should do well to know what the scripture says through diligent study and rely on the Holy Spirit’s gift of discernment to confirm some of the words being taught today.
