Topic: HUMILITY LEADS TO GREATNESS
Bible Reading: Exodus 9-10; Matthew 18
“Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4 (KJV)
Many in the world today desire to be great. They are right; it is something God planted inside each and every one of us. However, geatness comes from God because He who planted that seed in us is the only one who can help us bring it out. If you want to become great in life you must learn to submit to God.
Humility, however, starts with submitting your soul to God and Jesus gave us a clue on how to go about this in Matthew 18:3 (KJV), “And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Children are humble, dependent, teachable, weak, unpretentious and always willing to trust. Until we get to that level where we exhibit all these traits naturally before God greatness may be far from such persons.
Moses was chosen by God from a nobody and became so great that the people in Egypt fear him. Exodus 11:3b (KJV) tells us, “… Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people.” What was the secret to Moses’ greatness? He depended totally on God in his dealings with Pharoah. He never did anything outside what he was commanded to do. You will be amazed at how many times the bible recorded “and God said to Moses.” He received commands after commands from God because he obeyed every last command.
Lack of humility is one of the reasons we don’t hear from God. Hearing from God who created all and knows all is one secret to greatness in life but you must first submit your mind, will and emotions to God if you must hear from Him. James 4:6 (KJV) says, “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Grace gives us the power to do that which we cannot do on our own, leading to greatness.
Prayer: Father, I submit my soul to You today, help me to obey all Your commands for the rest of my life in Jesus name.
