TOPIC: THE POWER OF CONFESSION
Bible Reading: Joshua 14-15; Luke 4:33-44
“I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kardesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart” Joshua 14:7 (NKJV).
The bible says in Romans 10:10 (KJV), “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ” In our above focal scriptures Caleb stated categorically that he brought back report as it was in his heart. In other words he did not render his report to Moses confessing what he saw and stored in his brain but spoke what he believed in his heart despite all they saw in the physical. In other words he confessed his belief which is stored in his heart about God’s ability to give them possession of the land in question despite the size of the people. He was led by faith and not by sight. Faith sees the ability of God, while sight dwell on man’s limitation.
Caleb believed in God’s ability and power in his heart and confessed it, that is faith in operation. Developing total confidence and trust in God and His word irrespective of the happenings around you or circumstances. Our tongue is an object of power and transformation. When we make confession in tandem with what we believe in our hearts, it releases a very formidable force that gives direction to our life. For us to true recipients of the exceeding great and precious promises in God’s word we must align our confession with the believe of our heart. We must speak out that which we believe in confession, by so doing we begin to bring into reality and create in tangible form that which we believe in. Jesus gave a very clear illustration of this in Mark 11:23(KJV), “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” Aligning our confession to our believe, in other words, confessing what we have believed in our heart, gives acceleration to its manifestation. What we confess in doubt cannot produce because our heart is unstable on the matter.
Abraham believed God and was counted as righteousness unto him. Caleb believed God and pleased God and obtained His acceptance. (Numbers 32: 11-12). As believers we must be mindful of our confession. Our confession must be in sync with what we believe in our heart. Apostle Paul teaching about faith in Hebrew 11:6 (KJV) said, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is. And that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. We must confess or speak what we believe in our heart for it to produce. Confession is what produces the result of our believe. Caleb confessed what he believed in his heart and received divine acceptance, so it is imperative that in our Christian journey the words we speak must aligned with what we believe otherwise our efforts will be fruitless and unproductive. Examples such of that of Caleb are written down and preserved for our learning and guide.
However, ability to practice the principles of faith is predicated on our acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. When we accept the salvation that Christ offers, we become recipients of God’s redemption, which opens us up to the entrance of the Holy Spirit. With the help and teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit we begin to gain renewal of our spirit by the word of God. The entrance of the word will produce light in us guiding us in our ways, consequently planting in us divine and precious promise of God that enables us to work in line with God and His word.
My dear reader you can as well gain the acceptance of God and be called the son of God if you accept Jesus Christ into your life.
Prayer: Father, grant me the heart that trust you and believe in your word as I navigate this stormy sea of life IJN.
