Bible Reading: Isaiah 9:1-21
“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined” Isaiah 9:2 (KJV).
The coming of Christ is the dawn of a new day, a new era, new prospect; it is indeed a paradigm shifted. He is the dawn of new hope, joy to the world and peace to mankind. At the time of this prophecy, it was a dark age for man, with all hope of redemption lost. Prophet Isaiah threw light of prophecy bringing fresh hope and faith to humanity.
Israel, God’s people, and the gentile world were experiencing the absence of the light of God. The darkness was not necessarily the absence of physical light to light the streets but something worse. Darkness of hopelessness and ungodliness had covered the earth and gross darkness of ignorance had covered the people. Ignorance of God or the absence of God in one’s life or in a nation is the worse darkness ever. There was war, anarchy, confusion, fear and hopelessness. Death was a terror since there was no explanation for life beyond the grave. The coming of Jesus was great light and answer to the mystery of death. “For as much as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death, he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” – Hebrew 2:14-15 (KJV).
Jesus is the light of the world. He came to bring the light of the gospel, the light of God’s love and salvation to mankind. “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” – John 8:12 (KJV). Are you still wallowing in darkness? Come to the light today and find hope and peace.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for delivering me from darkness and bondage of sin.
