Bible Reading: 2 Chron. 23; 2 Thes. 1:1-12.
“Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;” 2 -Thessalonians 1:6 KJV
Whenever two people are engaged in a fight, what determines the winner is the resources at his disposal. The resources could be mental, physical or spiritual.
When Jehoshaphat faced three bigger nations as shown in 2 Chron. 20:1-3, his nation’s resources were not a match for those three nations and he knew he would lose the war if he should fight it physically. He called on God that was not limited in any resource and by the time God finished with the three nations, all their soldiers were dead and Jehoshaphat and his nation took days to gather the spoils of war.
If the nation of Judah had faced the three nations by itself, it would have been routed completely. This is why God said in Romans 12:19 (KJV), “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
Besides, you may never know all the basis for action of that party, but our God that knows everything will be able to know and give right judgement to the individual.
God also knows when his own is troubled, He may give the troubler some time to repent. This is why He expects his children to be long-suffering. However where the troubler refuses to repent, God will then move to recompense him with tribulations. That’s why the bible says in 2 Thessalonians 1:6 K(JV), “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;”
God has therefore decided to fight our battle if we are obedient and hand over such battles to him rather than fighting ourselves. This is why the bible says we should be good to our enemies and such goodness will cause problem for the enemies. Romans 12:20 (KJV) says: “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.”
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to hand over all that hurt me to you rather than fighting them directly.
