But the Chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. The governor answered and said unto them, whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. Pilate said unto them, what shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They said unto him, let him be crucified. And the governor said, why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, Saying, let him be crucified. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. – Matt. 27:20-26
This is the story of our salvation. The rest of the agony, suffering, excruciating pain, shame, cry and ultimate death of our Saviour is recorded in the entire chapter. The second question Pilate asked the rejecters and accusers of Jesus is what I want you to consider as we meditate on today’s scriptures.
“What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?” Join the rejecters? Neglect him? choose the Barabbas of pleasure, entertainment, drug, alcohol, or accept him into your life today as Lord and Saviour? What will you then do with Jesus called Christ?
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to love you wholeheartedly and to serve you all the days of my life. In Jesus Name. Amen.
