TOPIC: THE CURE FOR FEAR
“So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” – Genesis 3:10-11 (KJV)
Fear is destructive because it is a door that opens you up to every work of satan. Job said in Job 3:25 (KJV), “For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me.”
We often read and talk about Job’s ordeal but fail to realize that what caused all those terrible things to happen to him was that he opened the door for the devil through fear because what you are afraid of will eventually happen. Fear is a negative spiritual force that attracts evil. Sometimes I hear believers using fear to express themselves and it is wrong. They say things like, “I’m afraid I won’t be able to come…” or “I fear that this thing might not work…” A child of God isn’t supposed to talk like that. It is better to say, “I won’t be able to come.” Never use fear to express yourself.
From our text, we see how fear enters a man’s existence. When Adam yielded to the devil by listening to him in Genesis 3:5, the first question God asked him was, “…WHO TOLD YOU that you were naked?” God knew Adam must have changed his source of information. Adam had no business listening to the devil because God had already created him and the woman to be like Himself as recorded in Genesis 1:26 so there was no need to eat any fruit that will make him ‘like’ God. What you hear determines whether you will operate in faith or fear.
Some people are bound in fear because of the things that their parents or guardians have repeatedly told them from childhood. For others, it is a negative report from the doctor or what the television is saying.The cure for any kind of fear is to first change your source of information. You have to stop listening to anything that reveals your weaknesses, faults, and shortcomings and start giving attention to God’s Word. Stop listening to anything that is contrary to God’s will and best for you.If you want to live life above any kind of fear and enjoy success in whatever you do, then you have to feed on the right things because you can’t feed on fear and live victoriously in faith.
PRAYER: Father, I thank you for sending your word to destroy every spirit of fear in my life. I am eternally secured in GOD in Jesus’ Name.
