…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Psalm 34, Jude 1:1-6

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusted in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him” – Psalm 34:8-9(KJV)

Today’s reading in Psalm 34 is interesting and full of divine promises. Psalm 34 is loaded with the blessings of the LORD to them that trust and fear him. We shall be highlighting the numerous blessings outlined in this psalm for the readers’ consumption. These divine promises need to be eaten and devoured like a good meal set before a hungry man. The Psalmist puts it in a very proper perspective, “O taste and see that the LORD is good:” – Psalm 34:8a (KJV). When we stay outside God we lack understanding of the goodness and loving kindness of our God. Our God is plenteous in mercy and rich in giving. The love of God is unmatchable by any being. His love is past finding out, they are unfathomable. His mercies endures forever. God is a fortress to them who fear and trust him. He is a pillar of support to those whose confidence is in him.

The Psalmist is in a very good position to testify of the goodness of the LORD. Guided by the anointing upon his life he became a national hero at a very young age after slaughtering Goliath. God delivered him from the hand of Saul who wanted him dead. He never lost any battle for God proved himself mighty in his life. Serving, trusting and having the fear of God pays more than any investment on earth. Hear the Psalmist: “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles” – Psalm 34:6(KJV). Let us look at the numerous promises in this wonderful psalm:-

  1. The angel of the LORD encamp around them that fear Him and delivers them.
  2. There is no want to them that fear Him.
  3. He makes good things available to them that seek Him.
  4. God’s eye is upon the righteous and His ears are open to their cry.
  5. The face of the LORD is against the evil doers.
  6. God hears the cry of the righteous and delivers him out of all his troubles.
  7. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all.
  8. The evil of the wicked will slay him and the hater of the righteous shall be desolate.
  9. The LORD redeems the soul of His servants and no one that trust God shall be desolate.
  10. God is near to the broken hearted and saves the man of a contrite spirit.

Can you beat that? These are not written for the purpose of rhetoric but are words of eternal truth. If a man puts his trust and confidence in God living righteously, he will definitely be a recipient of the above stated blessings. My brother it pays to serve God.

Prayer: Father, give me a heart that pants after you like the Psalmist said in Psalm 42:1.
