BIBLE READING: NUMBERS 15, 16; MARK 6:1-28

“Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?” Numbers 16:9 (KJV).

The value we place in our calling determines what we make out of it. It determines our commitment to it and how relevant it ultimately becomes. There is the tendency to despise one’s calling and life assignment when one begins to envy the calling of others. Every calling and destiny could be so colourful if developed and pursued with passion and commitment.

Rather than focus on their assignment and develop it to be blessing, Korah, Dathan and Abiram began to envy the office of Aaron and Moses. The Lord separated and chose him (Korah) from the congregation of Isreal to bring him near to himself to do service of the tabernacle of the Lord and to stand before the congregation to minster unto them. This was such a unique, enviable and glorious calling but he despised it and began to envy and covet the priesthood.

This led to strive and rebellion. Korah, Dathan and Abiram became disloyal to the leadership of Moses and Aaron. They influenced many with their disloyal spirit. What they failed to understand is that it is not the glamour of position or office that God rewards but faithfulness in our calling and assignment. We need to place value in our calling and assignment so we can find fulfillment and be a blessing to God and humanity.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to place value in my life assignment.
