…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 27/05/2020

Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 1, 2, 3; John 10:1-22

“The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.” – Matthew 12:42 (KJV)

The battle for superiority has started for long in the world. Many people engage in physical fight to assert their superior position while some others employ other means to make their statement. At any rate, it is clear that this is an age long battle which is from one generation to the other. When some are not given recognition over their perceived position, they are ready to do some nasty things, either withdraw the service they are rendering or some other things just for people to feel their impact, more or less saying: look if you fail to reckon with us we shall let you also suffer. Sadly, this is also seen among professing Christians.
Solomon, no doubt was a great king in the land of Israel and this was not just by reason of his wealth but God also pronounced him great. “God said to Solomon, since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have” 2 Chronicles 1:11-12 (NIV). What better remark should make the head of a man swell more than this? The request of Solomon was to serve the people of God and this was honoured by God.

When Jesus was, therefore, talking about Solomon in relation to Himself, He did not mince word by letting them know that He was greater than Solomon by both imaginable and unimaginable standards. You are therefore encouraged to use your position to serve as Solomon did and to look always to the One greater than Solomon for constant guidance lest you derail.

Prayer: My Father, help me never to use whatever you give me for personal gain only. Also, help me to look at the Great One, Christ always in order not to get off track in Jesus’name.
