Bible Reading: Isaiah 10-12; Galatians 5
Memory verse: “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” Galatians 5:17 (KJV)
The flesh has always been a part of man, however, at the fall the devil took a giant stride in determining what happens to the flesh more than even the man himself. After the devil injected Adam and Eve with his evil words and man obeyed, man became corrupted. This was not the plan of God for natural man.
God’s plan on earth was to have an extension of Himself here on earth taking charge of the things He created. Man was created to be a god on the earth submitting to the One who created all things. However, the devil who craved power and lost out in the heavens, took it upon himself to corrupt God’s most beloved creation, man. The devil cannot create anything, but perverts and defiles what God has made. Man’s flesh was the only area he got him whole.
The battle within every man today is that of the flesh and the Spirit of God trying to reach out to our spirit. The spiritual conflict involves our whole being; whether to surrender to the sinful nature deposited in us by the devil or whether to yield to the Spirit of God. This battle is within every Christian and it will be for a lifetime. Paul, tells us how the flesh operates, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. [19] For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do” Romans 7:18-19 (KJV). This battle will last throughout our life time. But there is hope.
To win the battle over the flesh the Bible encourage us to be in the spirit, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” Galatians 5:16 (KJV). By so doing the flesh will be subdued.
