…Spreading the gospel of Christ

“By faith, Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God” – Hebrews 11:5 (KJV).

Living to please God should be the desire of every true Christian. Apostle Paul prayed for the Colossian church that they might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10). The desire to please God and the pursuit of that cause will result in fruitfulness and conformity to Christ. The pursuit of a life pleasing to God will lead to character development and the fruit of the spirit. Such commitment will also result in commitment to the word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Enoch was committed to a life pleasing to God. In an age where people live to please men and to gratify selfish desires, it is highly commendable that Enoch shunned the temptation to live to satisfy self, he rather chose to please God.

Pleasing God will often lead to displeasing some people and denying self of its pleasure and gratification. A true call to discipleship is a call to deny self and to esteem God. It is to prioritize God and his will and to serve God with all one’s heart. Enoch has this testimony that he lived for God.

In this age where people put self first and have become lovers of self, more than lovers of God, can we have such testimony like Enoch that we lived to please God? Should we rather allow the love of the world and love of self to consume our passion?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I receive the grace to always live to please you.
