…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 28/04/2019

Bible Reading: 1 Kings 3, 4 & 5. Luke 20:1-24.

“And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.” – 1 Kings 3:4 (KJV)

The Lord Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). And Proverbs 18:16 (KJV) says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” Because we are the image of God, a man’s gift to God with a holy heart will also make way for him. This is because your gift to God or anyone is a symbol of your honour to that person particularly if the person is higher than you. Thus, Solomon showed God that he held Him in high esteem by giving an unusual gift. 1 Kings 3:4 (KJV) records: “And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.”

This opened the way to Solomon as God came to him to ask him what he wanted. The great response of Solomon made God to give him far more than he asked for. He was given the wisdom he sought for and in addition, both riches and honour making him the wisest and richest king that ever lived! (1 Kings 3:9-13).

So it is wise to give to God and his children! These gifts could come in terms of your time, knowledge, talent, money or other resources at your disposal. Proverbs 19:17( KJV) says “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord ; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”

So you honour God when you give to His work, the poor or the men of God. However for such giving to open doors, the giver should have a relationship with God. Also the person should give such things cheerfully. 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV) states, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give ; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Prayer point: Father, give me a giving spirit in Jesus name.
