…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 4, 5, 6; John 10:23-41

“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” – John 9:4 (KJV)

Children like to run errands for someone who is always taking care of them. Growing up, we have also done likewise for those from whom we believe we shall get something in return. When doing that promising work, the whole of the heart shall be given to it and diligence shall be given in order to receive the targeted goodies at the end. The idea of errand running is old, people always run errand for someone who is older or more superior anytime a demand is made most especially when one is sure of getting reward.

The Scripture reveals some people who were highly committed to the task that was given to them at any point in time. Mention was made of the man that Solomon called upon when he was constructing the temple of God, he finished his assigned work. We did not have the account of face squeezing when the work was on-going regardless of the magnitude of the work. The Scripture explains: “Huram made the pots, the shovels, and the tossing bowls. So he finished the work which he had undertaken for King Solomon on the house of God” 2 Chronicles 4:11 (TNEB). King Solomon was the one who sent him that errand and he delivered.

In the same vein, the Master, Jesus Christ knows that He was on an errand for the Father and He determined to use the day to get the work done without delay. It was clear to Him that meaningful work is better achieved during the day. Whose errand are you running currently? Is it your own or His own? Remember, the night is drawing near every day. I implore you to redirect your priorities because until His errand is run accordingly, it might be difficult to get His reserved reward.

Prayer: Lord, help me to run only Your errand without hesitation as long as I live.
