Topic: Help attracts helpers
Bible Reading: Psalm 136-138; 1 Corinthians 9.
Memory Verse: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38 (KJV)
Several years ago, I was in the Polytechnic and I did not have money to buy some textbooks needed. So I devised a way to pass the exam. I went to some of my colleagues who had the textbooks but were not really reading it to lend them to me and I promised to teach them thereafter. I remembered vividly that I borrowed an Accounting textbook, read it from the beginning to the end and also practiced all the questions in the book. By the time I finished, I went to teach the lender. What I then realized is that as I was teaching him, I was having deeper understanding of the subject. At the end of it all, I became very good in that subject that I made “A” grade in all the examinations that I took on that subject. Besides, the giver was also able to learn at his pace as I gave detailed explanations to him better than just reading the text book. This is a practice of the word of God in
Luke 6:38 (KJV), “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
Similarly, when Joseph was in the prison he rendered help to the King’s butler and baker by interpreting their dreams to them. After two years, the butler remembered the help he got from Joseph and recommended him to the King. This is how Joseph became the second in command in Egypt. What are you going through, try and help someone to achieve his objectives and you will be amazed how your own problems will be solved.
Generally, try and be good to those around you whether they are your colleagues, subordinates or even employees, any of these can be your destiny helpers and your relationship with them will dictate what their responses will be to you. Imagine the housemaid of Naaman was the divine helper who showed him where he could be healed of his leprosy. Just like David and his soldiers found the sick Egyptian when they were on a mission to free their families who had been taken captive by the Amalekites. The Bible says they fed the man and he regained his health. Thereafter he took David and his soldiers to the camp of the Amalkites who invaded and took their families captive. They were thus able to save their families and brought them back. On the other hand the neglect of the Egyptian soldier by his Amalekite boss led to the discovery of the Amalekites and the eventual death of most of them! (1 Samuel 30:11-19).
