…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Psalm 4; 1 Peter 4:11-19.

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord , only makest me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8 (KJV)

The year is fast running to an end and it is usual that you have a number of things you will like to do before it finally ends. However, it is important that you do not jeopardize your health in the process. One of the key things you need to ensure is having adequate sleep. 1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV (says): “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” So how do you take care of this temple? You need to take adequate rest. And though doctors recommend a number of hours of sleep depending on age, the best is how well you know your body and to ensure you take adequate sleep that your body feels comfortable with. Usually, this is built up over time. It is important to note that everything good including sleep, comes from God. Psalm 127:2c (KJV) says: “For so he giveth his beloved sleep”

If you find it difficult to sleep, it may be due to stress and current challenges you are facing. Just hand everything over to God and begin to worship him. As you do so, unusual calm will come upon you and you will be able to sleep. Hence the Psalmist says in Psalm 4:8 (KJV): “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord , only makest me dwell in safety.”

On the other hand, it is important not to leave all the important things and sleep. The word of God says in Proverbs 6:9 (KJV): “How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?” You need to prioritize and ensure you maintain a list of things to do daily and check that you cover your list at the end of the day. If it is not covered, then make plans to cover it the next day. Thank God you do not need to have a manual register to list things you need to do as most phones have a reminder section where you can list your “to do”.

Also, disorganization is a major source of worry particularly in festive moods like this as you rush to retrieve items or documents. It is important that you still find time at the beginning of the day to hand over your day to God such that your actions for the day is guided by him. Proverbs 3:6 (KJV) says: “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Action point:
Check that you give your body adequate rest particularly during this festive season.
