…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 29/04/2018

Bible Reading: Psalm 123

“Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.” – Psalm 123:2 (KJV)

It is often said that 30 days make one pay. This denotes that you work for 30 days to collect your pay for that month. And a lot of workers truly work just to please their employers and earn their pay. For some they work to please their employers so that they can secure their job, earn increase in pay or earn promotion.  This sometimes lead to doing things that do not align with your faith even when you have the option of choosing otherwise.

The implication of this is that a number of Christians are known as believers at home and in the church but not at work. This is born out of ignorance as such actions can only benefit you for a season. Both yourself and employer are created by God and owe your existence and success to his mercy.  Joseph was quite aware of this fact and he recognised that though he was a servant in the house of Portipher, he  noted he was working for God. So when the wife of his master asked him to have a sexual affair with him, he bluntly refused and said he could not sin against God (and not his employer). Though he got punished for this as his refusal led to his imprisonment, God ensured he was later rewarded and thus able to fulfill his destiny.

So as children of the most high, you should wait upon the Lord as stated in Psalm 123:2 (KJV): “Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.”

You should do your work as if God is there watching you all the time expecting the Almighty to reward you. This is why the bible clearly states in Psalm 75:6-7 (KJV): “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” So God will reward you appropriately. While keeping the rules of the institution where you work but contribute your quota to the upliftment of the business irrespective of how you are treated. God who rewarded Joseph will reward you beyond your expectation.

Action Point: It is workers day in the next two days. Please examine your work ethics and decide to do your work as if you are working for God.
