Bible Reading: Psa. 5; 1 Pet. 5:1-7.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Prayer is placing a request before another who is in a position to make good the demand. When we call on someone to give us money, food, cloth etc, we are praying to him/her.
Sometimes we may feel someone is rather junior to us and so we feel reluctant to place a demand on him/her. That is refusal to pray. So it could be out of pride or laziness that one is not placing a demand on the other. Similarly, when we refuse to pray to God, it means, we are either lazy or proud.
But when we realize that our God is a caring father who is interested in our welfare, our attitude to prayer should change. The bible says in 1 Peter 5:7 KJV: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” So we should put all our burdens on God. His word says in Matthew 7:7 KJV “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
So all God expects of us is to build a relationship with him. Once this relationship is built, we can get the promises stated in the bible easily. This is why the word of God says seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, all other things you require shall be added unto you (Matt 6:33).
How then do you build this relationship? You need a few steps; accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour ( John 3:3); study the word of God regularly (2 Tim 2:15); pray continually (1 Thes 5:17); preach the gospel (Prov 11:30); and live a life of obedience to the word (1 Sam 15:22).
Prayer: Father, help me to build a relationship with you in Jesus name.
