WORD MEDITATION: 30/05/2024
TOPIC:
Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 28-29; John 11:47-57
Memory verse: “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgement; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” Genesis 18:19 (KJV)
The best thing any father can leave for his son is a legacy of having a close relationship with God. Children, most times, end up doing what they see you do than what you tell them to do. It is the dream of every parent to see his children succeed him in whatever area of life he has served especially in the area of service to God.
Abraham, in the memory verse of today, passed the legacy of service to God to his son Isaac. God saw his heart and spoke about him commanding his household even before he gave birth to his son. God said, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgement; Genesis 18:19 (KJV). When Isaac came, he followed in his father’s footsteps. So did Jacob who also passed this to his sons.
In today’s reading, David was about to leave the scene and charged his son, “Thou Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect hearte and with a willing mind: for the LORD searchest all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of the; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever” 1 Chronicles 28:9 (KJV). This charge was from a father who knows God himself and has experienced him. David wants the best for his son, and as he was about to leave the earth he feels safer leaving his son in the care of the One who has always protected him all his life.
What legacy are you leaving for your children? If someday you were to leave this world whose care would you entrust them into? God is the only one you can confidently leave your children to when the time comes. But for them to serve Him well like you do, you must show them the way by how you serve and worship Him now, leaving an example for them to follow. Only then will such a father be truly remembered.
