…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Psalm 59-61; Acts 28:16-31

“Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies” Psalm 60:11-12 (KJV)

The help we receive from God is surer and complete. When God extends His hand to help His children that put their trust in Him, it will be obvious to every discerning heart that it is the hand of God in operation. The above focal scripture resonates throughout the history of Israel. Israel have experienced divine help and had also sought help from man. The Psalmist looking back at the history of Israel as a nation can testify that when God comes to help you He fortifies you to be strong and do valiantly. On several occasions when Israel was pitched in battle against the conspiracy and syndication of nations that are better equipped and outnumber them numerically, when they looked up and cried to God He responds and deliver them from their enemies.

We have an example of the treacherous conspiracy of the Ammonites, Moabites and them of mount Seir against Israel. Judah cried unto God and in praise to God the confederacy was destroyed. The help of God is certain and cannot fail. When God rises for your help, you are as good as victorious. When God steps into the battle for your help you will surely do valiantly. The bible says in 1 Chronicles 5:20(KJV), “And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried unto God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.”

In 2 Chronicles 14 we read of the story of King Asa in battle against the Ethiopians. Asa and Judah were overwhelmed by size and equipment. Asa had five hundred and sixty thousand warriors as against that of Zerah the Ethiopian with One million foot soldiers and Three Hundred thousand chariots. In 2 Chronicles 14:11(KJV) the bible recorded “And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude, O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.” The scripture recorded that God smooth the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah and the Ethiopians fled. This is the help of God from trouble and it is total and complete.

The vainness associated with the help of man lies in the uncertainty of man and his dispensability. When you put your trust in man, you are bound to be disappointed, either by limitation of your helper, death or treachery and wickedness. The untrustworthiness of man is the foundation for the vainness of his help. The help of man has the trapping of uncertainty and failure, but our God is infallible.

Conclusively, the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 118:9(KJV), “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in Princes” Again it says in Psalm 146:3(KJV), “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.” The help of man is very limited as no man can help you above himself. God’s help is unlimited because God Himself has no limit.

My dear reader, God’s help is always available for His own. Who are His own? Them that are purchased with the blood of His Son and have accepted Him as their Lord and master. It is for you to be helped that Christ came, so you can be marked out by exemption from the evil parading on earth. I beseech you therefore make haste and receive Christ into your life today.

Prayer: O God my Father father, thank you for always being there for me.

Pastor Joel Ezeugo
