Bible Reading: Psalm 142-144; 1 Corinthians 10:14-33.
Memory Verse: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)
Honour is defined by Webster’s dictionary as reverence, veneration or any act by which reverence and submission are expressed as worship paid to the Supreme Being. Also the same dictionary defines Glory as honour or praise ascribed in adoration.
On honour, God said to Eli, the priest, that He will honour those that honour Him and lightly esteem those that despise Him (1 Samuel 2:30). Do you honour God? God expects that we should honour Him in every area of our lives. That’s why He said in Malachi 1:6 (KJV), “A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?”
God expects us to honour Him in every area of our lives. Whether it is in business, career, marriage, church service or public service. He expects us to put Him first in every area of our lives. This is why He tells us in Matthew 6:33 (KJV), “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
So at home, in the office, or social gathering or at your lonely hour, you will think of what will glorify Jesus before taking action. This means whatever will bring shame to His name, you will not do it even if it means making losses on your personal account. If David had thought of this, he would not have invited Bathsheba talk less of having an affair with her! ( 2 Samuel 11: 2-4). This is why the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV), “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
I think it’s pertinent to do a quick check by mentally reviewing your activities yesterday whether everything glorified God. If there is any aspect that did not glorify Him, you need to analyze the situation to understand why you did what you did and how do you correct the situation, and, more importantly, avoid a repeat.
On the other hand, if you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you are already dishonoring God. But there is a way to correct the situation. All you need is to surrender your life to Christ and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour, repent of your sins and begin a new life by obeying Him .
Action point:
Let your life give glory to God in everything you do from today.
