BIBLE READING : Isaiah 9; 10; Ephesians 3
“Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood” Isaiah 10:15 (KJV).
Sometimes as human beings we watch our results and achievements and we are tempted to begin to see ourselves as great achievers. We tend to forget, or arrogate the power, the riches, the accolades that come with great feat to ourselves forgetting that we are mere instruments in the hand of God. The truth is that we are nothing and we can achieve nothing of note without God. “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” John 15:5 (KJV). We must not forget that the wisdom and idea, the health and the strength and the very life we live, all come from God. We must learn to acknowledge God and return the praise and glory to him for all our achievements. He is the achiever, we are only privileged to be the vessel or channel.
There is no end to the lifting of a man who keep lifting the God that lifted him but there is also no secured future for a man who fail to lift the God that lifted him. One may be carried away by results and achievements and begin to feel entitled to the blessings. The result is that he will begin to see others as lazy and dull. While we cannot dismiss the place of diligence and skills, we must understand that we are only privileged to attain any greatness we attain.
Prayer : Lord, keep me humble at any height I am privileged to attain in life.
