Bible Reading: Zechariah 13,14; Revelation 21.
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” – Revelation 21:8 (KJVS)
Technology has brought a lot of things that make lives better but some of the technological developments are being used for wrong things! One of such is the mobile phone. A story is said of a man whose business partner called on his mobile phone. Though he was in a hall in Lagos, the western part of Nigeria, he picked the call and said he was in Port- Harcourt, a southern part of Nigeria. Unknown to him, the man calling was also in the same hall and so he asked him to look back as he was also in the same hall with him! The man was ashamed as he was caught red handed lying. But as laughable as this situation is, it could lead the man to spend the rest of his life in hell if he did not repent before dying. Revelation 21:8 (KJVS) states, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Lying has become so common that people have branded it and given several colourations to it. But as a child of God, it is essential that you do everything necessary to stop lying if you are one of those still engaging in it. Why do people tell lies? Some do to justify their actions. Some do it to avoid shame, others tell lies in order to look good. Whatever reason, it is a sin that can lead anyone to spend eternity in hell.
All efforts should therefore be made to avoid telling lies. One of the ways is to be open to your partners and colleagues. Also, living a transparent life and more importantly, recognising that Jesus is always with us and telling lies will grieve him should help us to stop telling lies! Our God is always ready go forgive us as long as we are ready to repent.
So it’s important that you do not only repent but completely forsake lies. Proverbs 28:13 (KJVS) says, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Always remember that the names of liars will be blotted out of the book of life and so will end up in hell besides the fact that it grieves the Holly Spirit everytime you engage in it.
Action Point:
Identify what often lead you to telling lies and prayerfully seek for ways to stop them.
