Bible Reading: Zechariah 13-14; Revelation 21.
Memory Verse: “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:7 (KJV).
The promise of God to anyone who is an overcomer is too attractive. He says, “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:7 (KJV). What does such a person overcome to be called an overcomer? You need to overcome the world which essentially is its values and systems. This is well described in 1 John 2:16 (KJV), “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” We are enjoined to depart from them. And the path to departure from the world systems is by loving God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30).
Who then is an overcomer? The Bible explains it to us in 1 John 5:5 (KJV), “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” Such belief must be till you leave this corruptible body. That also presupposes that you keep renewing your mind. Romans 12:2 (KJV) says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Such transformation comes by continual studying and meditating on the word of God and fellowshipping with him. As you get to know God deeper, your life gets more patterned after Christ.
For someone who overcometh, the Bible has several blessings listed particularly in the book of Revelation.
He will be given the tree of life, which is in the middle of the paradise of God to eat ( Revelation 2:7)
He shall not partake of the second death ( Revelation 2:11)
He will be given to eat, the hidden manna and will also be given a white stone with a new name. ( Revelation 2:17)
He will have power over the nations. (Revelation 2:26)
He will be clothed in white raiment and Jesus will confess his name before God the Father and his angels. ( Revelation 3:5)
He will be made a pillar in the temple of God (Revelation 3:12).
Would you rather be an overcomer? Then examine your faith in the Lord Jesus and make necessary amendment to ensure you end well as a true child of the most high.
Prayer point: Almighty God, please make me an overcomer in Jesus Christ name.
