Topic: Are you an Overcomer?
Bible Reading: Zechariah 13-14; Revelation 21.
Memory Verse: “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:7 (KJV)
When a man loses his loved one, he becomes sorrowful and for some it leads to depression when they think that there may be no one to give them the kind of support whether physical, financial, spiritual or otherwise that the deceased used to give them. This should not happen to a believer as he/she should have faith that God has the last say concerning him/her. The situation of loss of a loved one is one of the painful circumstances that human beings go through. Other difficult circumstances include sicknesses, poverty, stormy relationships, spiritual attacks among others. These and many more are what Jesus said he would take away from the life of anyone who overcomes the world.
Revelation 21:4 (KJV) says “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” What a wonderful time that would be! When man’s mood or emotions will no longer swing from sorrow to joy but will be joy all through. More so, Our Lord Jesus will be with all overcomers (Revelation 21:3) and as Psalm 16:11 says in his presence is fullness of Joy and pleasures for evermore! In fact, God promises such a cordial relationship with every overcomer when he says in Revelation 21:7 (KJV), “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
Who then is an overcomer? Our passage, Revelation 21 tells us those who are not overcomers and they will spend their eternity in the lake of fire. Revelation 21:8 (KJV) is quite clear, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” So an overcomer therefore is one who is a true follower of Christ and lives his life according to the word of God. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV) states clearly, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
The year is running to an end and you need to examine yourself whether you are living a life of total obedience to the word of God. If not it is important to call on Jesus Christ now for mercy while taking a decision not to go back to sin. Then your name will be written in the book of life!
Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus, please instruct and teach me the way I should go and guide me with your eyes so that I can be an overcomer.
