“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” – Colossians 1:9 (KJV).
Faith is a product of revelation of God and spiritual understanding. Where spiritual understanding is lacking in the life of a believer, it will affect his faith and walk with God and the fulfillment of God’s purpose for his life. Spiritual understanding will enhance our walk with God and our pursuit of purpose. It makes us see things from God’s perspective. People with spiritual understanding prosper in the kingdom economy. They take the lead and others are at their command. Like the sons of Issachaar who had understanding of what Israel ought to do, they are filled with divine ideas and clarity of direction. While others grope in the dark not knowing what to do or the way out of situations, people of spiritual understanding are never in the dark, they have enough light on their path. They are people of uncommon wisdom and great exploits. Spiritual understanding will always lead to lofty achievements. Trials and challenges are handled with great passion and strong faith where there is spiritual understanding. Purpose is understood and life is lived with passion and a sense of commitment. Sacrifice is made with joy, giving and Christian service are done with excitement and cheerfulness, suffering and trials are endured with hope and patience where there is spiritual understanding. Lack of spiritual understanding will affect our relationship with God and people. It will affect our attitude towards ministry and kingdom business. Lukewarmness, lack of commitment, eye service and evading responsibility are all products of lack of spiritual understanding. Poor attitude to kingdom business is a result of lack of spiritual understanding.
Spiritual understanding often leads to discernment. It comes by revelation of God and his ways. When this understanding comes, one will begin to see things the way God sees them and value what God values. For lack of spiritual understanding, Esau sold his birthright, not appreciating the implications. With spiritual understanding, Moses forsook Egypt and the treasures in Egypt, “choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season” – Hebrews 11:25 (KJV). Spiritual understanding made him to esteem the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual understanding in Jesus name.
