Bible Reading: ISAIAH 15:1-end
“My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the day of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction” – Isaiah 15:5 (KJV).
Burden is one of the ways God leads and helps his people to pursue his purpose. Most times God allows his people to feel his heartbeat towards a thing or a people. Such burden, if rightly responded to, could lead to prayer, intercession, giving or other possible actions it could demand. It was burden for the salvation of mankind that led to the incarnation of Christ and his suffering on the cross.
Burden for the kingdom or for people can take us out of our comfort zones to make sacrifices that we couldn’t have thought of otherwise. When one is conscious and sensitive to the feelings of fellow human beings or the feelings of God, the burden of the other is shared. Burden can be transferred from one person to another, but such will demand sensitivity and commitment. Burden could lead us to our knees in prayer. it is also possible to ignore or suppress a burden.
Spiritual burden could be a sign of spiritual health. The scripture says to bare one another’s burden and so fulfill the laws of Christ (Galatians 6:2).
God often speaks through burden. Burden for the Lord leads to consecration and quality time with him. Burden for the brethren leads to service and sacrifice while burden for souls could lead to interceding for their salvation or evangelism.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to share in your burden for souls.
