Bible Reading: Psalm 145-147; 1 Corinthians 11:1-15.
Memory Verse: “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV)
A follower is an imitator or disciple. Whoever you choose to follow will influence your life. Similarly, anyone who follows you will be patterning his life after yours. The reality is that you may not know how many people truly follow you. That may not be important. What is so critical is will those who follow you end up being like Christ? Several have not seen Christ before and may not read the Bible regularly but look up to some people they respect and choose as great examples to follow.
The implication of the above verse is that each Christian should be a true disciple of Christ so that others who imitate you will also end up being like Christ. Note that your followers can be at home, in the office, in church, or even in social gatherings so you have the burden of ensuring that your life is patterned after Christ always.
Thus, your behavior in the office, how the work is done, how you take care of the official things in your care, how you set the objectives, appraise people, lead them in performing the various functions and also how you follow others in ensuring the job is done are all relevant as you can have various imitators at various phases of your life. This in itself means you need to be someone who understands the word of God and follow it in your day to day activities such that it is clear to every observer that you pattern your entire life after Christ. Thus, whether in the office as outlined above, in the church or any other place, you do everything unto Christ so that you become the example others can follow at all times. This is essentially what Paul has done and that is what gave him the confidence to tell the Corinthians to imitate him. He said in 1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV), “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”
As a true follower of Christ, you will have no hidden life style that others cannot see or hidden sins that you cover but your life will be an open book that anyone can read. Is there any area of your life that you cannot make open yet, work on it so that you can fit into the example of Paul remembering that our Lord and Saviour is coming for a perfect church. “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:27 (KJV).
Prayer point: Lord, please prepare me to be without spot, wrinkle or blemish ready for your coming.
