Topic: God with infinite understanding
Bible Reading: Psalm 145- 147; 1 Corinthians 11:1-15.
Memory Verse: “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” Psalm 147:5 (KJV)
“Understanding”, as explaned by the Webster’s dictionary, is the faculty of the human mind by which it apprehends the real state of things presented to it, or by which it receives or comprehends the ideas which others express and intend to communicate. Understanding is also called the intellectual faculty. It is the faculty by means of which we obtain a great part of our knowledge. This is what King Solomon asked God for so that he would be able to judge the Israelites aright.
Your understanding of a situation, therefore, is how far your intellectual faculty can comprehend it. Thus, your understanding of any subject depends on how well you know that subject as you cannot comprehend anything beyond your knowedge of it. Meanwhile, every human being is limited in knowledge. There is a limit to what you know about every subject. You can read widely in order to acquire more knowledge and so broaden your understanding of the subject matter but this is also limited by the knowledge of the author of the books you read! On the other hand, God Almighty is the source of all knowledge, He gives knowledge to people and reveals what is hidden or in darkness. (Daniel 2:20-22).
He creates all things and so knows everything whether past, present or future and that’s why his understanding is infinite. Sometimes ago, a rich man was sick and after the doctors could not heal him, he was referred to a man of God. When they eventually met, the man of God prayed for him and there was no change in the man’s health and the man of God went to seek the face of God to know why the rich man was not getting better and God revealed a secret about the man to him and asked him to ask the man for details. The man of God asked the richman to tell him any secret sin he has committed for him to gain back his health but he stated he had done nothing. And then the man of God revealed to the rich man that God said he had a dispute on a large parcel of land with some people and it became a court case and the day the people were to testify against him, he organized someone to drown them in the river where they were to cross to get to the court. He did not stop there but went to kill the man who drowned them in order to hide their killing. Unfortunately, when the rich man heard this revelation which he taught nobody knew, he was greatly surprised and disturbed; he asked the man of God to leave his house and he didn’t want to see him again!
Not only does God know all things, He understands everything because He created all things! (John 1:1-3.). This is why He is able to reveal secrets to His prophets as stated in Amos 3:7 (KJV), “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” This is why Elisha was able to know the plan of the king of Assyria to wage war against Israel even when nobody told him because God revealed it to him and he revealed it to the king of Israel! (2 Kings 6:8-12). God’s understanding is without limit as stated in Psalm 147:5 (KJV), “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.”
If you therefore have any issue you cannot comprehend anytime or you do not know how to resolve, take it to the Lord and He will give you the required understanding.
Prayer point:
Father, please increase me in wisdom and understanding in Jesus name.
