“Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness” 2 Corinthians 9:10 (KJV).
God is the one that gives seeds to the sower. The reason he gives seeds is to create a future. There can be no harvest without sowing. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”. Galatians 6:7 (KJV). Life is a seed, living is sowing. We sow words, actions and material things. The measure we sow is the measure we reap. “But this I say, he which soweth sparingly shall reap sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully” 2 Corinthians 9:6 (KJV). The psalmist testified of God’s faithfulness in providing bread for his children. He said he was once young but now old, he has never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed beg bread. Bread is not always to the mighty because even the young lion do lack and suffer want. Those who believe and trust God for provision will see God put food on their tables even in times of famine. David testified “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” Psalm 23:1 (KJV).
But God does not only provide food, he also gives seed to the sower. Most people lack bread because they are not prepared to sow, they would rather convert the seed to bread because they are not tomorrow thinkers.
Eating the seed along with the bread robs a person of tomorrows harvest and the blessings they are meant to be to others today with their seed and tomorrow with their harvest. Greed robs most Christians the privilege and benefit of sowing. They would rather have everything for themselves, the bread as well as the seed.
God’s plan is that we eat the bread for our nourishment and sustenance and sow the seeds for continuity and future harvest. It is more rewarding to convert the bread to seed than to convert the seed to bread.
Notice that God multiples the seeds sown not the bread eaten. He increases the fruits of our righteousness. It is righteousness to sow in the kingdom and into the lives of others.
PRAYER: Oh God, increase the fruits of my righteousness in Jesus name.
