“But ye know the proof of him, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel”. – Philippians 2:22(KJV)
Our service in the kingdom must be wholesome, real and selfless. Our service must be total without seeking for human praise. It must be divulged of glory seeking and human recognition. It must be motivated by our love for God and a hunger and deep desire to please Him. It must be a continuous craving to reciprocate the unequal love God demonstrated towards us at Calvary. Christ served wholesomely as shown in the scriptures. In John 4:34(KJV) “Jesus said unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Also in John 9:4(KJV) Jesus said “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work”. This a statements of a commitment, dedication and diligence in service. This is the example left for us to emulate. The Apostles followed the footstep of Christ and where counted worthy. It was this exemplary leadership that Timothy saw and copied from Paul worked with that earned the above qualification – “But ye know the proof of him, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel”.
As Christians we are expected to serve in the gospel emulating the servanthood of Christ and the Apostles in their service to God and in the kingdom. Christ demonstrated a leadership that was focused and undistracted. Jesus said in Matt.6:22(KJV) “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light”. This scripture teaches us the need for being focused and purposeful in our determine servanthood in the Kingdom. Christ was focused on His assignment on earth – which was his purpose of been on earth. He was undeterred and not distracted by anything but to fulfil the purpose of His coming. We must as His followers follow the same footstep to achieve our service to God and the Kingdom.
Prayer: Father give me the grace to follow after the footstep of Christ and the Apostles in my service in the kingdom.
