“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another”. – John 13:34-35
Jesus handed a new commandment to us. It is the commandment to love one another. Demonstrating the love of God among brethren as our lifestyle should be our identity. The unsaved are expected to see our love for one another to attest to our been followers of Christ. The scriptures admonishes us to “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another”. Romans 12:10.
The God’s kind of love which we are expected to practice is properly spelt out inted in 1 Cor. 13:1- 13. These are some essential quality of the true love: – longsuffering, kindness, it does not envy, does not boast, not proud, does not behave itself unseemly, not self-centered, not easily provoked, think no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoice in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things.
We need the grace of God to practice love as spelt out above as a lifestyle. It takes the Holy Spirit to thoroughly ignite our spirit to effectively live in the God’s kind of Love. We must ask the Holy Spirit to shed God’s kind of love in our heart. Jesus asked in Matthew 5:46(KJV) “For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the pubicans the same”.
Prayer: Father grant me grace to love my fellow man as you demand and to love you with my spirit, soul and body.
