“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. – Romans 9:16(KJV).
On many occasions I have heard men say boastingly, I am a self-made man. I consider such a person as lacking in knowledge and understanding. No man is self-made. You are what you are by the mercies and favour of God. Every man’s placement in life is by God’s mercy because the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill, it is divine favour that separates the successful and unsuccessful. The effort and technic you put in that make you assume yourself a self-made man, may not be compared with what the less successful person did. God’s favour pick men from the dunghill and turn them into stars. Here what the bible says in 1 Samuel 2:8 “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them”. True riches (not the one acquired through looting of national treasury) is of God, and he apportion to everyman by divine mercy. Mercy is of God and He shows mercy to whom he will show mercy. God is not under any obligation to any man. See what the Psalmist had to say in Psalm 107:1 “O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever. Divine mercy is what kept us alive to achieve what we have achieved. Your age mate that had outpaced you in life but died early, did not die because he was a worse sinner than you, mercy kept you alive. In your boasting remember that the air you breath is freely given and that the same air is available to the dead body but he cannot take it in. In all dealing and efforts we must build in the God factor. God’s mercy is what has kept us alive not our righteousness or our strength. Give God the glory for providing you with life, strength and wisdom that brought you to where you are today. O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever. In Psalm 30:5(KJV) the Psalmist said “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning”. By Christ Jesus God has made his mercies and favour available to whosoever will believe in his son and serve him. It is God that redeemed your life from destruction and crown you with lovingkindness and tender mercies. “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plenteous in in mercy”. Psalm 103:8. Oh what a loving and merciful God we serve. The pagan gods demand their children for sacrifice, our God provided his son as sacrifice for our sin and extended mercy to us. The law says we must die for our sin, MERCY say no we must live and provided himself to pay the terrible price of sin. Dear reader which will you choose?
Prayer: Father thank you for your mercy and grace upon my life.
