Bible Reading: Psalm 79
“Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die” – Psalm 79: 11(KJV)
If only our spiritual eyes can be open for us to see the battle raging over our lives. On daily basis the forces of evil desires to take life but are continuously prevented by the power of the Almighty. Satan takes men into captivity by the reason of sin and transgression. Some are held in captivity imprisoned by their own sin, while others have been condemned to die awaiting execution. Our text for today talks about the “sighing of the prisoners” and “those that are appointed to die”. The question is, who took them prisoners and who appointed them to die? The enslavement of man and appointment to die originated from sin. It is through sin and rejection of God’s love that the wicked hands of the enemy reached out to take man captive. “For the wages of sin is death;….” Romans 6:23a(KJV). However, when in that heavily guarded prison the individual realizes his mistake and cry unto God from a genuinely repentant heart (sighing), God hears from heaven. “For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth; To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;” – Psalm 102;19-20(KJV).
God, in His infinite, love provided us a way of escape from the dungeon of captivity where the soul of man was held. Sin drove us to become ensnared and imprisoned but righteousness came and set us free. “As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee.” God has provided us a stronghold in the blood of Jesus Christ, where no force can penetrate if we remain put in it. Many of us were appointed to die but by the blood of Jesus God established a covenant of life that saw our escape from Satan’s dungeon.
Jesus Christ is the wisdom and power of God (1 Corinthians 1:24). It is by Jesus Christ that God has preserved humanity from the sentence of death; “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die” – Ezekiel 18:4(KJV). So the greatness of God’s power is in Christ preserving everyone that believes in him from death. God, through Jesus, has given us victory over death, “Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;” -2 Corinthians 1:10(KJV). Jesus Christ conquered death for us, O death, where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory? – 1 Corinthians 15:55(KJV). Accept Jesus today and stay under his divine protection, for he is able to protect his own.
Prayer: Father thank you for preserving me from death by Jesus Christ
