TOPIC: HELP FROM THE LORD
Bible Reading: Nehemiah 4-6; Acts 2:14-47
“My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:2 (KJV)
No one fulfills God’s purpose or becomes all that God has ordained without receiving help. Every significant accomplishment in life is made possible through God’s grace working directly and through the people He raises to assist us. True success is never independent of divine help.
The account of the impotent man at the pool of Bethesda illustrates the painful reality of lacking help. He said to Jesus, “Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool…” John 5:7 (KJV). His greatest challenge was not merely his infirmity but the absence of someone to help him at the right moment.
As children of God, we are not designed to live helpless lives. It is contrary to God’s purpose for His people to remain without assistance or to depend solely on human strength. The Lord desires that we continually position ourselves to receive the help that comes from Him. The psalmist says, “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” Though the mountains surrounded Jerusalem, he refused to place his confidence in them and looked instead to the Creator of heaven and earth. This reminds us that while God may use people as instruments of blessing, our ultimate trust must never rest in men but in God alone.
Isaiah 31:1 (KJV) warns, “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help… but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!” Whenever our confidence shifts from God to human systems, influence, or resources, we expose ourselves to disappointment. The question we must continually ask ourselves is: “Where is my confidence truly placed”?
During the great famine in Israel, the king responded to a desperate woman’s plea by saying, “If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee?” 2 Kings 6:27 (KJV). His words highlight a profound truth: if God’s help is absent, human help is ultimately insufficient.
When you turn your heart wholly toward God in prayer, worship, and dependence upon Him, He orchestrates circumstances and raises people from unexpected places to assist you. Divine help often arrives through channels you could never have imagined because God is able to move the hearts of men according to His purpose.
Never place your full confidence in human ability or earthly resources. Fix your eyes upon the Lord, knowing that He is your source, your strength, and your unfailing Helper. As you trust Him completely, He will order your steps, open doors before you, and surround you with the help you need to fulfill His purpose for your life.
Prayer: Father, my eyes are fixed upon You, for You alone are my Help, my Strength, and my Refuge. Let Your grace and favour surround me as I walk in obedience to You in Jesus’ name.
