…Spreading the gospel of Christ

TOPIC: PRAYER IS THE KEY

Bible Reading: Isaiah 50–52; 1 Thessalonians 1

“And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” — James 5:18 (KJV)

As a believer, it is a great honour to be called by God to share the beautiful message of His redeeming love with the world. Jesus said, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain” John 15:16 (KJV). The fruit we are commissioned to bear is not merely material wealth or earthly possessions; it includes the souls won into God’s Kingdom through the preaching of the Gospel. When your life is committed to bearing fruit and seeing souls come into God’s Kingdom, you must also learn to depend on Him through persistent prayer.

Why do we sometimes preach the Gospel without seeing the expected results in the salvation of souls? One important answer is that evangelism must be supported by fervent, persistent prayer. Soul winning involves two essential activities: preaching the Gospel and praying for people to receive it. We must do both faithfully. If you are praying but not actively sharing the Gospel, step out and preach the Word. If you are preaching but not giving yourself to prayer, strengthen your prayer life. Prayer is the spiritual preparation that supports our practical efforts because the salvation of souls involves a spiritual battle. Second Corinthians 4:3–4 (KJV), “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” This means that the minds of unbelievers can be blinded to the light of the Gospel. Therefore, we must pray that every veil of deception, falsehood, and spiritual blindness will be removed so that people can understand and receive the truth of Christ. As we pray and preach, we trust the Holy Spirit to convict hearts and reveal the glory of Jesus.

Our opening Scripture reminds us that Elijah “prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit” James 5:18 (KJV). In the same way, persistent prayer is vital to the harvest of souls. As we pray, we depend on God to prepare hearts, remove hindrances, and cause the seed of His Word to produce lasting fruit. Do not become discouraged when results are not immediately visible, and do not underestimate the power of your prayers. Keep interceding for your family, friends, colleagues, community, and city while faithfully sharing the Gospel with them. You have been commissioned to bear fruit, and prayer is an essential part of fulfilling that assignment. Stand firm in faith, pray persistently, preach boldly, and trust God for a harvest of souls into His Kingdom.

Prayer: Father, Give me a heart that is passionate about winning souls and a spirit that is steadfast in prayer in Jesus Name.
