TOPIC: FAITH AS A MUSTARD SEED
Bible Reading: Jeremiah 20–23; 2 Timothy 1
“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” — Matthew 17:20 (KJV)
How much faith do you think you need to bring about a change in your life? Oftentimes, you may be looking for mountain-sized faith to deal with mustard-seed-sized issues. Never allow worry to magnify your challenges until they appear greater than God’s ability to help you. Worry can feed fear and weaken your confidence in God’s Word. Instead of focusing on the size of the problem, fix your eyes on the greatness, faithfulness, and power of God. Remember, your confidence rests not in the size of your faith but in the God in whom you place your faith.
In today’s text, Jesus pointed to unbelief as the problem confronting His disciples. The issue was not simply the size of the mountain but their failure to trust God as they should. Mustard-seed faith is a simple yet genuine confidence in God’s character and Word, grounded in the finished work and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches that the mustard seed, though small, grows into a great plant (Matthew 13:31–32). In the same way, your faith can grow as you hear, receive, and act upon God’s Word. When challenges arise, “Cast all your care upon him; for he careth for you”. 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV). Even when circumstances seem overwhelming, you can trust His wisdom, strength, and faithfulness.
One way to exercise your faith is by speaking in agreement with God’s Word. Jesus said, “ye shall say unto this mountain” (Matthew 17:20). Therefore, speak God’s promises over your circumstances, pray with confidence, and take the steps of obedience He directs you to take. Faith is not merely speaking words to force a desired outcome; it is trusting God and acting according to His Word, even when the outcome or timing is uncertain. Like a seed planted in good soil, faith is nurtured through God’s Word, prayer, obedience, and perseverance. Keep trusting the Lord, for He is able to sustain you, guide you, and work in your life according to His perfect will.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of faith and for Your unfailing Word. May my faith grow daily as I walk with You in Jesus Name.
