“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also, after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise” Ephesians 1:13 (KJV).
The Holy Spirit is the guarantor of our inheritance in Christ. Believers in Christ are sealed with the Holy Spirit; this seal is God’s signature showing that such person belongs to Him. The seal confirms the believer’s identity in Christ as a purchased possession. The same way we write in our properties or file our receipt to show that such property belongs to us, God puts the seal of the Holy Spirit in those He has purchased with His blood.
The seal of the Holy Spirit marks a person out as God’s precious possession. It singles the believer out from the rest of the world as God’s purchased possession.
The implication of the seal is that the bearer is holy unto the Lord and set apart as a vessel in God’s service. The believer so sealed is expected to separate himself from the world knowing that he is purchased with the precious blood of Jesus as a lamb without spot or wrinkle. The believer is expected to consecrate his life unto God as a vessel of honour, holy and acceptable unto God. Apostle Paul admonished the believers to present their body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God which is their reasonable service.
God has the right to this claim because he has redeemed the believer by paying the full price. “For as much as he know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without sport” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV).
Knowing that one is sealed with the Holy Spirit should be a thing of joy and great excitement as it is a guarantee that we are accepted by God and indeed precious to God understanding the values God placed on us by the great price he paid to purchase us. What a joy to know without an iota of doubt that I belong to God.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to always remember the great price you paid for my redemption.
