Topic: Are you led by the Sprit of God?
Bible Reading: Psalm 120-121; Romans 8:1-18
Memory Verse: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14 (KJV)
“Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts” Zechariah 4:6 (KJV ). You cannot do anything spiritual by your power but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Thus, you need the Spirit of God to be delivered from the works of the flesh or the demands of the law. How? You cannot earn your own salvation, however, by your faith in God, you can be saved. That’s why Jesus said in John 15:5 (KJV), “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” We are nothing without the Lord Jesus Christ. And so to have the authority of God, you must be filled and led by the Holy Spirit. How do you achieve this? It cannot happen overnight.
You have to follow a process and that begins when you truly give your life to Christ and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. Thus, the moment you repent of your sins and yield to Christ, you are filled with the Holy Spirit. The Bible says in Ezekiel 36:25-26 (KJV), “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. [26] A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.” That new spirit is the Holy Ghost and will guide you in all you do. But that process continues as the Holy Spirit begins to give you direction over your natural impulses. When you follow the leading of the Spirit over that of the flesh, you are elevating the Spirit above the flesh thus shunning sin. And as you do this often, you get used to following the Spirit . Thus Romans 8:14 (KJV) says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
Sometimes you wonder whether it’s the Spirit of God speaking to you or just your flesh, this is why you need to study the word of God regularly as the Holy Spirit ministers to you through His word. Besides, as you study the word more, you get to know God more and be able to differentiate between the way of God and that of the earthly as your mind gets renewed. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2 (KJV). When you do all these, your life becomes transformed and you begin to note that works of the flesh no longer appeal to you rather you bear the fruit of the Spirit in your living.
Action point: Are you born again, because that is the beginning of the process. If not, repent of your sins now and call on Jesus to come in to your life and be your Lord and Saviour.
