“He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me“. – Mark 7:6 KJV
Honour means great respect and admiration which people have for a person, country etc , often publicly expressed. True honour comes from the heart. But when a man speaks or sings choruses by following others and not deeply from his heart, he is deceiving God. Unfortunately, God cannot be deceived as he knows all our heart!
Truly, a number of people pay a lot of lip service to what they do not truly believe in and most times, this is often extended to God ! People put food on the gas cooker and then go inside to pray. While praying, the mind is on the food being cooked or even on other issues agitating the mind. This is not what God expects; that is why he says in Mark 7:6 KJV “He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me”.
For us to truly honour God, our total being; body, soul and spirit should be dedicated to Him. We should respect God with our time and resources.
When you wake up in the morning, who do you talk to first? Do you thank God for giving you sleep and waking you up the following day. When you are set to eat, do you give glory to God for the food? When you go out and come back safely to your home, do you thank God for the protection. Honoring God means putting God first at all times and in everything that we do.
Do you put God first in all you do?
Prayer: Almighty God, help me to put you first in everything that I do in the name of Jesus.
