Bible Reading: Psalm 120,121,122; 1 Corinthians 9
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” Psalm 121:1-2 (KJV)
There are so many who put their trust in different sources as their ultimate source of help. Some look up to their friends, others look up to their families, while yet others look up to their wealth, etc. All these sources of help are temporary. Those who look up to man as their ultimate source of help are warned in Jeremiah 17:5 (KJV), “Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the the LORD.” Trusting in man takes your heart away from God and attracts curses.
God wants all men to trust in Him. He is our maker and only He knows the purpose why you are here and will ensure that purpose comes to pass if you align with Him. The bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASV), “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Many say they trust God but when trouble comes they rarely acknowledge Him first, rather tend to lean on their own understanding.
David was a man who experienced so many adversities from his early youth. Yet, he kept God in his heart all through his ordeal and He never failed David. God saw his heart and came through for him. God sees your heart too. Most times the words we speak are different from what is in our hearts. We are created in God’s image and likeness so we must learn to align the words of our mouth with what is in our heart. Remember Genesis 1, God saw the earth and spoke out how He wanted it to look. The same principle still applies today, just that you have to guard your heart with all diligence and keep it well for only the things of God.
Paul faced many adversities too. But he never looked elsewhere apart from God. He says in Acts 26:22 (KJV), “Having obtained help of God, I continue unto this day…” You need the help of God to continue in whatever you are doing, especially in the area God has sent you. Jesus set us an example to follow. From the onset of His ministry on earth He never looked to any man but God, the Father. Even though He was from heaven too and has access to everything of God, He submitted Himself in childlike humility to the Father to lead Him.
Submit yourself to God in meekness and He will guide you through all the troubles and issues surrounding you. If you look up to, and keep your focus on God He will take you above those seemingly impossible situations that causes you unrest.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for coming to my aid over and over again. I receive grace to always acknowledge You in everything I do in Jesus name
