BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 9-11, JOHN 5: 1-24
Memory Verse: “And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD. So they made him ride in his chariot”. 2 Kings 10:16 (KJV)
The Lord gave us a charge before he ascended that the gospel be spread throughout the nations in furtherance of his kingdom here on earth. For this task to be accomplished, it will take the efforts of men that are passionate and ready to go the extra mile for the kingdom. For the gospel to get to us today, it took the passion and sacrifice of certain men; men who laid down their lives for the kingdom; soldiers who would only do the bidding of their Master no matter the circumstances.
God is searching for kingdom passionate men in this end time; men who will go all out to ensure that the kingdom of God is manifest here on earth through their zeal, availability and obedience. Jehu was such a man. He was anointed with a mandate to bring judgement to the house of Ahab according to the word of the Lord spoken through Elijah the prophet; and wipe out idolatry from the land of Israel. Jehu developed a burning desire for his assignment and went about fulfilling it zealously. It was evident that he didn’t hesitate to share with anyone what he had done for the Lord.
Today, we find a lot of Christians dragging their feet in serving the Lord using different excuses. Some young persons who were aflame for the Lord have suddenly gone cold due to marriage and other circumstances. Where is our zeal? “And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up”. John 2:17 (KJV). No man can effectively do great and mighty things for God without being passionate. You must have passion for souls, reaching out to the lost regardless of the circumstances or challenges around you. Your finances should also go into kingdom advancement. It is a proof of your passion.
In Acts 5:40-42, the apostles continued preaching despite the warnings and beatings. Can that be your resolve today? Is your heart beating for the kingdom? Can you like Jehu boldly say “come and see my zeal for the Lord”?
Prayer: Lord from today, let your zeal consume me. Give me a heart for your kingdom.
