Bible Reading: Psalm 70-72; Romans 4.
Memory Verse: “And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” Romans 4:21 (KJV)
The strength of a promise depends on the strength of the person making it. Thus if a child promises to give you a Rolls Royce, you know he is just joking because he does not have the financial capacity to deliver on such a promise. However, if a billionaire such as Aliko Dangote makes such a promise, you are well assured that he can deliver all things being equal. However, while he has the capacity to deliver, something else can prevent him from fulfilling that promise such as sickness and change in business fortune among others. However, when God makes you a promise, nothing can hinder Him from fulfilling such a promise except you make yourself inaccessible by committing a sin. He is not limited by anything including his presence! He can be in several places at the same time! He can, therefore, deliver on his promise no matter how seemingly impossible it looks. Thus, in the case of Abraham, who was about a hundred years, and his wife, Sarah, whose womb was dead, God promised to give them a child and Abraham believed him! That is why the Bible says in Romans 4:20 (KJV), “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;” And God gave them the child at the appointed time!
So if God has made a promise to you, you should be well assured that He will fulfill it if you allow Him. He does not fail. However, You should know that He does so at His time and not necessarily yours. Thus Apostle Peter said in 2 Peter 3:8 (KJV), “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
Based on this scripture, you should recognize that God may hold your blessing for the right time. Thus God made a promise to Abraham that He would give him a seed that will inherit the land of Moreh ( Genesis 12:6-7) at the age of seventy five but did not give him the child until he was a hundred years. Thus God will always honour his promise as long as you remain steadfast with Him. It was said of Abraham in Romans 4:21 (KJV) concerning his trust in God: “And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform”. He did not only get the son but his faith was imputed to him for righteousness (Romans 4:22).
What promise has God made to you that appears impossible to fulfill? Just remain steadfast in your faith and thank Him regularly for His goodness to you and you will receive your promise sooner than you think.
Action Point: Thank God for all He had done for you in the past and what He will do for you in future and see His promises fulfilled in your life.
